Erica Harney
Erica Harney (b. New York, 1984) holds a BFA in Drawing and Painting from Alfred University, Magna Cum Laude (2006) and an MFA in Drawing and Painting from the Pennsylvania State University (2010). She has also studied at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy.
Harney has exhibited extensively across the US and internationally. Significant solo and group exhibitions have taken place at the SELECT Fair at Art Basel Miami Beach, GoggleWorks Center for the Arts in Reading, PA, the Crane Arts Center, Lacey & Phillips Gallery and the Boston Street Gallery in Philadelphia and several New York City galleries such as Greenpoint Gallery, Sara Meltzer and Coleman Burke. Notable venues also include The Grand Opera House in Wilmington, DE; Cecil College in Elkton, MD; Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY; the Pennsylvania State University; Penn State Harrisburg; Red Raven Art Company in Lancaster, PA; Estate Yard Gallery in Castlecomer, Ireland. She is represented by InLiquid (Philadelphia) and The Palette & The Page in Elkton, MD. Fulton Montgomery Community College in Johnstown, NY is currently hosting a solo exhibition of her work, while she is also preparing for solo exhibitions at The Palette & The Page (April 2018) and Manhattanville College (fall 2018).
The artist is the recipient of numerous awards, including a Graham Endowed Fellowship, a Daniel J. Murphy II Award for Creativity, a Christos N. Apostle Grant and a microgrant from Blick Art Supplies. She has been featured in several publications including KA Confidential, Studio Visit Magazine, Southern Humanities Review and TriQuarterly, and she illustrated the cover of Smoking Cigarettes, Eating Glass: A Psychologist’s Memoir by Annita Sawyer. Harney has been a resident artist at ArtScape in Toronto, Weir Farm in Connecticut, the Palazzo Rinaldi in Italy, and the Vermont Studio Center.
Harney teaches in the Fine Art Department at Cecil College in North East, MD and Alvernia University’s Philadelphia Center, having previously taught at the Pennsylvania State University and the New York State Summer School of the Arts. She continues to lead various workshops, lectures and community education classes across the Mid-Atlantic region including Penn State Hershey Medical Center and the New Canaan Library in CT. Harney has also curated and organized several group exhibitions at Iona College, Alfred University, Penn State and throughout Philadelphia.
Harney has worked collaboratively with visual artists, musicians, writers, and choreographers. She also works with the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program and as a freelance muralist and scenic painter for Philadelphia-area theatre and production companies that include Opera Philadelphia, Opera Delaware, the Fulton Theatre in Lancaster, PA and the New Candlelight Theatre in Wilmington, DE. It is this work that most directly impacts her current studio practice.
